TIE DYE CLOTHING, SHIRTS, FABRIC, AFRICAN CLOTH, AFRICAN TIE DYE DRESSES
Most people associate tie-dye cloth, t-shirts and clothing with the hippies of the sixties and seventies, but the truth is that tie-dye is an African art. Incredible designs and patterns of multicolored dyes are applied onto knotted or tied up fabric. The tightly squeezed parts of the cloth resist the dye, giving spectacular swirled patterns of color. Small objects, such as pebbles, shells or beans are also used to make repetative patterns; they are tied one by one in a pattern for dying, then untied and removed to reveal a tiny symbol left by for each piece. This type of tie-dye cloth is my favorite, especially the ones done in inky blue black indigo dye.
